Prickles' Big Day Out Hi Mrs. Bruner Class,

Today Prickles had a wonderful day out with all the children from Room Five. We went to visit a local potter who told us amazing stories and showed us enormous pottery sculptures in his garden. We watched him throw a couple of pots. Prickles was a very good hedgehog. She had her photo taken by a sculpture representing a Kereru (a New Zealand native wood pigeon). She was very good when Mr. O'Donnell was making pots. She didn't get any clay on herself!

We traveled to an old railway station at a little town called Waihi. It is an old gold mining town. We took the steam train ride out through farmland and along a river bank. We stopped at another station and had an iceblock as it was very hot. We are just coming into summer in New Zealand. We had lunch near the river and then walked a track along the river bank. This place is called Karangahake Gorge. It is a beautiful view.

We walked through an old, long dark tunnel. Prickles hopped in my backpack for that part! We shone our torches all round the walls and made spooky sounds! Prickles still kept to the bottom of the pack! We walked across an old swing bridge and only just got back to school at 3:00 PM. It was a super day. Prickles is very tired after his Big Day Out. He is now sound asleep under my desk!!
